Josh Balk
Key Player
Josh Balk is a corporate policy director with the animal liberation group Humane Society of the United States, where he has worked since 2005. One of his jobs at HSUS has been to encourage schools and corporations to stop buying regular eggs and switch to “cage-free” eggs.
Before going to HSUS, Balk worked at the vegan activist group Compassion Over Killing for three years, where he was an outreach coordinator promoting veganism to restaurants and conducting undercover investigations. At HSUS, Balk has continued his vegetarian evangelism, telling a crowd at an HSUS-sponsored conference in 2009: “It is needed for farm animals that we get people to eat more vegetarian meals… We just have to reduce the number of animals that are raised for food. And we can do so by encouraging people to eat more vegetarian meals.”
