David Jernigan
Key Player
Director, Center for Alcohol Marketing and Youth; Founder, Alcohol Justice
Jernigan previously served as an adviser to the World Health Organization regarding alcohol and health policy. He co-founded and previously served as associate director of the Marin Institute (now Alcohol Justice).
Despite government funded studies to the contrary, Jernigan insists that “The more alcohol advertising kids are exposed to, the more likely they are to drink, and drink heavily. We have stronger and stronger research showing there is a link to advertising.”
Jernigan continues to advocate for the elimination of any advertising that might possibly be seen by someone under 21. He has even heavily criticized window displays for the HBO television show “Boardwalk Empire” saying “These are sources that children pass on the way to school. They can’t be turned off.”
