Shannon Goessling is a 1993 graduate of the Emory University School of Law and a 1990 graduate of Rollins College in Florida, where she studied public policy. Following law school, she was a staff prosecutor to three Atlanta-area district attorneys. After this role, she turned to private practice and took charge of a family home-remodeling business.

Goessling ran in 2002 for the office of Georgia Attorney General on the issues of domestic violence, victims’ rights, and ethics among public officials. She won the Republican nomination but lost to the incumbent Democrat, garnering 45 percent of the vote in the general election. She has been the Southeastern Legal Foundation’s Executive Director since September 2004.
