Andy Kerr
Key Player

Earth First! activist Andy Kerr’s opposition to logging led TIME to call him a “white collar terrorist” because of the fear he inspired within timber companies. He is largely responsible for making the spotted owl a household name.

Kerr has not wholly walked the straight and narrow. In 1995 he was arrested with militant Earth First! co-founder Mike Roselle for refusing to leave the building that housed Senator Mark Hatfield’s office. Following the incident, Kerr wrote in the Wild Forest Review: “Civil disobedience must once again become a tool in the environmentalist’s toolbox. All of us should seriously consider getting arrested for the cause.”
